Cannabinoid Receptors

Cannabinoid receptors are part of the Endocannabinoid system. They are cell membrane receptors. There are both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body.

The Endocannabinoid system controls pain-sensation, mood, memory, and appetite. As a result, marijuana can reduce pain, impact memory, increase appetite, and stabilize or destabilize mood.

Scientists think these receptors facilitate the release of euphoric chemicals in the body and brain, such as serotonin and dopamine.
